Conigital and Partners Pioneering the Future of Transportation with Project MACAM and Project CONNECTOR
Conigital is proud to announce that it has been awarded two major projects in the field of connected and automated mobility. The project MACAM and Project CONNECTOR will explore the commercial viability of self-driving vehicles and on-demand passenger services respectively.
Project MACAM, awarded £8.3 million by the government and matched by industry for a total of £15.2 million, will establish a self-driving vehicle operation in various parts of the West Midlands. The vehicles will be monitored and controlled from a centralised Remote Monitoring Teleoperation (RMTO) centre, which will use 5G connectivity to ensure seamless operation. The project partners include National Exhibition Centre Ltd, Direct Line Group, Coventry City Council, Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council, WMG, University of Warwick, Coventry University, dRisk, IPG Automotive and West Midlands Combined Authority.
Project CONNECTOR, awarded £8.7 million by the government and matched by industry for a total of £17.4 million, will pilot on-demand self-driving vehicles in Cambridge. Up to 13 electric vehicles will provide passenger services across two sites, Cambridge University’s West Cambridge Campus and the Cambridge Biomedical Campus, integrating with existing transport services in the area. Working alongside Cambridgeshire County Council, Cambridge City Council, South Cambridgeshire District Council, and the University of Cambridge is the principal partner, Greater Cambridge Partnership. dRisk, Stagecoach East, IPG Automotive UK, Conigital and Gamma Energy are further project collaborators.
In total, seven projects from all over the UK received a combined £81 million in government and industry funding for self-driving passenger and freight services. We are thrilled to be at the forefront of this cutting-edge technology and are looking forward to the results of these projects.
Conigital’s involvement in project MACAM and Project CONNECTOR highlights our dedication to defining the future of connected and autonomous mobility. These projects will provide valuable insights into the commercial viability of self-driving vehicles and on-demand passenger services, and Conigital is proud to be a part of this exciting journey.
